Work Life Balance

For many years now, employers and employees have been balancing the fine line between their work life and home life. This term was coined as "Work Life Balance". In this day of mobile computing, Work Life Balance is dead. Before someone cries blasphemy, let me explain.

Right up front, most of us are carrying our life in our pocket, hip or purse. Yes, that blessing and curse - THE CELL PHONE. This device that buys us our freedom from being near a land based line has put us on a mobile anchor.

So obviously there are benefits of being mobile. We aren't locked at home or an office or some other physical location. But now we are available 24x7x365. Our employers now can reach us whenever and where ever we are at. But this isn't all bad news. With smart phone technologies, we are able to do many aspects of our job from where ever we are at. I can connect with my web services back in the office and be almost as productive as I am with my Droid as I am at my desk.

On the flip side, I can also stay easily connected with my friends, family and new business contacts. I can tweet, post updates to blogs, catch up on the news, etc. all from my phone without using any corporate resources.

This has brought us to a new understanding for Work Life Balance. As I stated earlier, Work Life Balance is dead. We are now at Work Life Integration. There is no longer a line separating the two. Just evaluate your life and your social interactions and you will see how true this all is.

If you want to understand more about this, search the web for the term "Socialnomics".

This "Freedom" enables many people to pursue other liberties in their life.

Here's to Work Life Integration!
